Click on “ADD TO CHROME” button to install

By default this is set to letters/characters and if you like me and need it to count words instead you will need to go to chrome://extensions/ and click on options below the Characters and words counter extension. You will then get an option to change the default setting:
2. When you highlight a selection of words and right-click on your mouse you will also see the word/character count.
